Guards and bolsters are where craftsmanship shows. The junction between blade and guard, the inside curves of a finger guard, the face of a nickel silver bolster — these are the areas buyers and judges look at first, and they're the hardest to finish with standard tools.

The Guard & Bolster Detail Kit pairs the two Cratex shapes built for this work: cones for inside curves and concave surfaces, and points for tight junctions and focused finishing.

What's Inside

• Cratex Cones (Box of 100) — Fine grit. The tapered profile naturally follows concave geometry — the inside of a finger guard, the curve where a sub-hilt meets the blade, the recess behind a double guard.
• Cratex Mini Point Kit No. 167 — Assorted bullet and cylinder points in all four grits. Bullet points blend into curved transitions; cylinder points give you a flat contact surface for finishing bolster faces.
• 2 Extra Mandrels — For both cones and points.

Pro Tip

Tape off your finished blade when working on adjacent guard/bolster surfaces. Cratex is gentle, but one slip with a spinning cone can leave a mark on a polished blade.
