The workhorse for blade flats and bevels.
Small wheels are where most knife makers start with rubber-bonded abrasives. Mount them in your rotary tool or flex shaft and work down the blade — they're perfect for knocking out belt scratches before hand sanding.
Knife Making Applications
- Removing belt grinder scratches from blade flats
- Blending bevels after heat treat
- Pre-etch prep on Damascus (medium and fine grits)
- Satin finish work
Grit Selection Guide
- Coarse (brown) — Aggressive scratch removal, use after 120-grit belts
- Medium (green) — General finishing, use after 220-grit belts
- Fine (blue) — Pre-polish prep, use after 400-grit belts
- Extra-Fine (white) — Final prep before compound, minimal scratch pattern
Box of 100 wheels. Available in all grits. Standard 1/8" arbor hole fits most mandrels.
Knife maker FAQ
Are small wheels better for blade flats or tight details?
Small wheels are strongest for blade flats, controlled satin prep, and broad scratch refinement. For very tight details, compare Cratex Points.
Do I need mandrels?
Yes, wheels need compatible mandrels. Confirm shank size and wheel fit before checkout if you are using a Dremel, Foredom, or flex shaft.
Which grit should I choose?
Choose based on the scratch pattern you need to remove, not the shine you want at the end. Use the grit guide before buying if you are unsure.
